2017 Carnival Season in Full Swing! from Flag Fantasy on Vimeo.

Calling all Carnival and Bacchanal Lovers!  This is the time of year we are on our highest state of alert. Despite the impending inauguration of the 45th U.S. president, WE JAMMIN' STILL ... WE JAMMIN' STILL!  We look forward to the celebration of Caribbean food, music, color and culture that is Trinidad Carnival and Bacchanal Jamaica!  Trinidad Carnival Monday & Tuesday fall on February  27th & 28th, which makes for a fairly long season of celebration that commenced even prior to Christmas.  Bacchanal Jamaica quickly follows suit and takes place in Kingston, Negril & Montego Bay from April 15th through the 23rd.

Lots of great music and fetes are sure to generate heat, so don't mind the cold, ice and snow here in North America. Plan ahead and prepare to stay cool with our FlagFans!  No sophisticated lady leaves home without it 😉 We thank BellisimaDesigns for the exquisite signature costume specifically created for Ms. FlagFantasy to flaunt throughout Carnival 2017!  Make sure to check out more of her fabulous creations.

Carnival 2017!

So I'm one of those firm believers that NOTHING should be spoken of Carnival until the Christmas Season and all that it represents has had all the glory and honor that it deserves.  Now that we have given due praise to the birth of our Lord & Savior, I truly believe that we can slip into a season of celebration of music, color, food, life, and culture!

Bellisima Designs has created a glittering creation befitting of Ms. Flag Fantasy, and we are looking forward to flaunting it on the 2017 Carnival Circuit!

Let the festivities begin, and by all means, let the countdown begin ... Carnival is just around the corner, and coming to a city near you!

2016 Miami Broward One Carnival!

Labor Day on the Parkway was a nice time.  Lots of color and costumes and cool Caribbean vibes for the West Indian American Day Parade!  Those who were careful enough to preserve their beads and feathers are now looking ahead to Miami Broward One Carnival which takes place over the Columbus Day Weekend (Thursday, October 6th through Monday, October 10th, 2016).

Flag Fantasy is especially looking forward to that weekend to participate in the annual Carnival Pop Up Shop Miami, where a large number of vendors will be assembled at the Grand Café in Pembroke Pines, FL to provide last minute goods and services to the throngs of crowds converging on Miami for the Carnival that weekend.  Stop by to say hello and maybe pick up a FlagFan or 2 for you and your Crew to #RepOnDeRoad at the parade on Sunday!

2016 Montreal Carifiesta! from Flag Fantasy on Vimeo.

On Saturday, July 2nd Montreal qualified to become the new "Windy City"! It was also Wet, Wild & Sunny … yes, all of the above! Despite the crazy weather the Carifiesta Parade was lovely and included lots of color, music, & costumes. Of course Ayiti came out to represent as usual, and a great time was had by all the masqueraders as they paraded downtown on St. Catherine Street!

2015 Christmas Culture

Black Friday!   Christmas to Carnival!  As cooler temperatures become the norm throughout North America and Europe, things start to warm up in the Caribbean, where the Christmas Season is filled with the joyous anticipation and celebration of the birth of the Lord.  Christmas preparation focuses on  special traditional dishes and drinks, and Parang music influenced by Latin culture.  Of course many complain that Carnival keeps nipping on the heels of Christmas more and more each year, thereby not giving the latter the full focus and extent of celebration it deserves.   We at Flag Fantasy agree with that assessment, but that being said, would like to remind our fans that this is a short Carnival season (Monday, Feb. 8th & Tuesday, Feb. 9th) … So if you're looking for the ideal Christmas Stocking Stuffer for the Carnival Reveler on your list, you can't go wrong with our FlagFans!   Buy 3 or more and get Black Friday discounts of 20% from now through Carnival by using Discount Code BlackFriday on qualifying purchases!

2015 Emancipation Day

Excerpted from http://www.sebadamani.com/blog/happy-emancipation-day-nyc ...

Emancipation Day is a day that marks the ending of enslavement for many people of Afrikan descent. Emancipation Day is celebrated in many former British colonies in the Caribbean and areas of the United States on various dates in observance of the emancipation of enslaved people of African origin. The Slavery Abolition Act 1833 ended slavery in the British Empire on August 1, 1834 and throughout the Caribbean Emancipation Day is widely observed during the first week of August. In many Caribbean countries the Emancipation Day celebration is a part of Carnival, as the Caribbean Carnival takes place at this time (although Carnaval in Trinidad and Tobago takes place in February or March according to Ash Wednesday, not near August. In the U.S. different states have different days that they mark and celebrate Emancipation Day.

Bacchanal Jamaica 2015

Article posted on Trinidad Carnival Diary on February 24th, 2015:

http://www.trinidadcarnivaldiary.com/?p=10407

Top 5 reasons Jamaica Carnival is the BEST kept secret in the Caribbean

1)  It is the perfect cure for Post Carnival Depression. Are you having dreams of putting on a costume and meeting the band, do you have Private Ryan’s mix on repeat and does the temperature outside make you feel to cry every time you think of the hot sunny days in Trinidad? Have no fear with Jamaica Carnival less than two months away you can relive the Carnival experience all over again VERY soon.

2)  It is affordable. The most expensive thing you would have to purchase is your airline ticket. Accommodation fetes and even playing mas are all relatively less expensive than other Carnivals. As for value for money, where else will you find an all inclusive event on par with any of the upscale ones in Trinidad for $75.00US?

3)  There is only ONE Carnival band, Bacchanal Jamaica, so you do not have to worry or stress about which band is the “IT” band to get into. Having one band does not mean a skimp on service, amenities or the experience. If drink and food service on the road is not enough, you have all amenities like the large bands in Trinidad including fully stocked drinks trucks, lunch rest stop and all of the hottest DJs . There are also private sections including a T Shirt section for those who do not want to jump in costume.

4)  The fetes. You can start the party from Easter Weekend in Ochos Rios with Beach J’ouvert, then to Portland for Marabana. The next week continues with Block O, J’ouvert, Sunrise Breakfast Fetes and Frenchmen Bazodee among others. There was not one fete where we didn’t have a great time as it was vibes from beginning to end. Last Carnival there were over 30 fetes to choose from and Carnival 2015 you can expect some more added to the roster.

5)  You are in Jamaica! The island is absolutely gorgeous, the food is divine (curry goat and white rice, escovitch fish, jerk chicken yum) , the beaches are sublime and the people are extremely hospitable. Add on a day or two to your vacation and explore the island, you will be hooked on the Jamaican charm.

De Party Done?

Ok, so the return flights from T&T have been boarded in grim silence with costume headpiece safely in hand.  You arrive at your home airport and more likely than not, you exclaim “What the … “ as you land amidst mounds of snow and cold wind chill factors.  Yes, honey, you’re not in T&T any more!  Welcome back to reality!  Added to which you are possibly depriving yourself of bread and chocolate for the next 40 days for Lent.  Is life really worth living at this point?  Of course it is!  We’ve got Jamaica Bacchanal right around the corner to pick up where T&T Carnival left off.  Stay Calm and Stay Tuned!

Feb. 23 – Apr. 12:  Jamaica Bacchanal http://bacchanaljamaica.com/
