Carnival 2017!

So I'm one of those firm believers that NOTHING should be spoken of Carnival until the Christmas Season and all that it represents has had all the glory and honor that it deserves.  Now that we have given due praise to the birth of our Lord & Savior, I truly believe that we can slip into a season of celebration of music, color, food, life, and culture!

Bellisima Designs has created a glittering creation befitting of Ms. Flag Fantasy, and we are looking forward to flaunting it on the 2017 Carnival Circuit!

Let the festivities begin, and by all means, let the countdown begin ... Carnival is just around the corner, and coming to a city near you!

2014 World Cup Soccer Fever!

Almost as hot and explosive as the events and upsets surrounding the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil, we have the onslaught of the 2014 North American Caribbean Carnivals!  Summer is definitely in full swing, with warm temperatures that make the Polar Vortex seem like a distant nightmare.  West Palm Beach, FL and Charleston, SC revelers took to the streets today in celebration of their carnival presentations.  Lots of fetes, food, music and vendors!  Brazil may currently have the world stage under the spotlight, but the Caribbean Diaspora is also celebrating their rich culture in grand style throughout North America!  Look out for west coast Hollywood, CA and Ottawa, ON (Canada), and Charlotte, NC to launch their carnival presentations next week.

Get your fans and keep cool as the summer progresses!

Spring 2014!

Ok, so we've overcome our T&T Carnival Tabanca, and gotten through Tax Season. Time for some fun!  The US Carnival Circuit is about to begin, and we've got Atlanta, GA, Phoenix, AZ, and Orlando, FL lined up for Memorial Weekend.  Just can't wait!  If you've been good, you gave up Soca/Calypso for Lent and only started listening to it again since Easter :-)  Boy the music sounds good!!!  I'm now also hearing remixes with a Latin flavor added, so it's like hearing the "chunes" for the first time all over again :-)

Enjoy the Spring Carnivals, and remember ... it may not yet be all that hot ... but our fans are still a Cool Necessity Indeed!

2014 T&T Carnival Tabanca

And then it was done.  Like the stark contrast between night and day, the Carnival grind came to a screeching halt with the start of the Lent Season on Ash Wednesday.  The stray beads, feathers and other debris have been swept from the streets, the vendor stands have been dismantled and carted away, and the crowded bars on Ariapita Avenue now appear somewhat deserted.  Was it all just a dream?  Did I imagine the whole Carnival frenzy that I was inextricably wound up in, or did it really happen?
The good news is that you have all the photos and videos to prove that it happened (watch out Facebook!) and playing the music will bring all those memories flooding back in no time!  The even better news is ... there's always another Carnival around the corner in some part of the world :-)  That's the definition of a Carnival Junkie ... as soon as one ends, we're looking forward to the next "fix"!
So stay calm!  Flag Fantasy is here to cool, caress, and cure you of your Carnival Tabanca.  One of the first Carnivals on the North American circuit is the Atlanta Caribbean Carnival at the end of May 2014 (http://www.atlantacarnival.org/main.html). Remember, it's never too early to get your fans ... a Cool Necessity Indeed!

'Twas the Week Before Carnival ...

... and all through the Twin Island Republic of Trinidad & Tobago chaos reigned supreme!   Tourists and visitors from all over the world are arriving in droves and are looking forward to observing, if not participating in one of the Greatest Shows on Earth!  With the new Socadrome showcasing the four large masquerade bands (Tribe, Bliss, Harts and Yuma) away from the traditional Queen's Park Savannah Stage, this is sure to be a significant turning point in the history of T&T Carnival presentation.  It remains to be seen if this change will indeed improve the carnival experience for masqueraders and spectators alike, by alleviating the congestion in crossing the Savannah Stage.

Any how you look at it, things are about to get hot, hot, hot in Trinidad & Tobago.  Have a Safe & Happy Carnival & remember to stay cool with your greatest fans at FlagFantasy!

Fantastic February Finally Here!

Ok, folks!  It's been a long haul and an unusually brutal winter for most of us.  We can only hope and pray that we've turned the corner onto the final stretch of the Countdown to T&T Carnival 2K14!  The fetes are in full swing ... the music is pumping ... and most of us are looking forward to our T&T flights later this month to catch the tail end of the festivities culminating in the Greatest Show on Earth on Carnival Monday & Tuesday (March 3rd & 4th)!  With this year's long Carnival Season, we've had time to enjoy an abundance of music of all genres put out by our prolific artists.  From Calypso (Kaiso) paying homage to Nelson Mandela, or commenting on the absence of local MPs when you need them, to Steelpan, to Chutney, to Soca, and to combinations of all of the above ... the music has been hot, hot, hot!

Like Farmer Nappy, we not missin' dis fete!  So get on your plane, boat, bus, taxi, or donkey cart ... but just find your way to the fete :-)  And remember to bring your fans, cause it's going to be hot!

Cheers!

2014 Polar Vortex Almost as Cool as Our Fans!

As though we needed yet another reason to look forward to getting on that flight to T&T Carnival, here came the Polar Vortex to blanket most of North America with frigid cold and vicious winds. As most of us try to stay warm, dig out of snowbanks, and do our best to prevent pipes from freezing and bursting, the folks in T&T are in full fete mode.  It's hard to imagine, as we sit here experiencing record low temperatures, that 50 days from now when we're On De Road jumpin' up and gettin' on bad ... the heat will be on, and our nifty little fans will comfort and cool you down.  For now, we'll just let the Polar Vortex handle it :-)

2013 Miami Carnival Postmortem

It has been almost a full week since #MiamiBroward #OneCarnival and I am still in recovery mode.  A little nodding and dozing took place behind the computer monitor at work on Wednesday, but it was all well worth it!  Miami Broward One Carnival Host Committee Inc. deserves kudos for an excellent Carnival presentation and weekend event execution.  From the Friday night Kings & Queens Steelband Panorama through the Saturday J'Ouvert, culminating in the Sunday Sun Life Stadium Parade of Bands ... the entertainment was non-stop, and this did not include the numerous parties and events being sponsored by other promoters who knew the crowds would flock to Miami despite the backdrop of the US Government Shutdown and looming Debt Ceiling Crisis.  Once it ha' Carnival ... nuttin' cyan' bodda we!  Many of us look to Carnival as stress relief to get us through the trials and tribulations of every day life.  MiamiBrowardOneCarnival, you delivered big time!  We look forward to fettin' with you again next year!

Cheers!

2013 Miami Coffee Boys "We Ready" Event

We spoke, and they listened.  We were tired of fettin' in old warehouses and school gymnasiums located in sketchy, remote areas of town.  We were tired of having to line up to leave the fete squashed like sardines in single file through a narrow gate, escorted by police and barking police dogs restrained in cars with lights flashing because someone complained about loud music playing in the neighborhood after 12 midnight.  Coffee Boys saw and heard all of this and changed the game.  Last year the venue for their Friday night Miami Carnival party was the Seminole Hard Rock Cafe Hollywood, in Fort Lauderdale, Fl.  It took place in a luxurious, lush garden setting in the midst of a busy night-time entertainment complex.  Lots of people, lots of good vibes.  Due to the success of that event, they're back at the same place this Miami Carnival Friday night, and they can definitely assure their guests ... We Ready!!!
